Ed,
Having had the Cross-American JAGUAR 6.6 machine a few days now and having put it through its paces on mainly rugs and a few carpets its given me the opportunity to compare it side by side with the Cross-American (European) Scorpion 3-XPS on identical items.
Machine wise the Jag feels lighter to move around and with the side booster hose missing off the Jag makes it narrower which has to be a plus point. Most noticeable difference when switching it on is the big reduction in noise which is a major improvement mainly for the benefits it brings when doing my hotel work. I've never had any complaints about the noise of the Scorp but it did like to announce its presence when running.
The pump seems smoother when running compared to the Scorp and on like for like pressure settings it seems to deliver the solution better. I couldn't really tell or measure other than by guessing if the suck is greater or not but drying times were better from the Jag as was the recovery water.
All in all its definitely a step up on the Scorp and a big well done to those involved with its development. The Scorp is still a superb machine and it won't be being put out to grass for a good while yet, but things move on and the Jaguar 6.6 System is certainly the new kid on the block now.
So what's next in the pipeline?

Hey ED! 1st off I'm digging this new cleaning machine, the vacuum is awesome!

Ed,
During my career in carpet cleaning, I’ve had my fare share of machines. I think it’s fair to say that at the time, I thought every one of them was great. Only with time did they become outdated and under performers compared with the new boys on the block.
We always crave more power. On one of my earlier machines, I remember upgrading the vac from a 1hp motor to 1.5hp. Wow! But after only a few days use, the vac tank collapsed! Some GRP and a home made tank brace and I was back in action.
Over the years, I’ve heard many a manufacturer say that their new, improved super suds machine proved so powerful that they had to reinforce the tank, or manufacture using extra heavy duty casings. It always adds weight to the machine and seems to me more like putting a plaster on a problem rather than curing the ailment. I have recently spoken to two colleagues who both reported tank splits on two different twin-vac machines. If the design was right from the start, first aid treatment wouldn't be necessary.
Up until a few weeks ago, the top of the tree portables were triple vac. In reality, despite what manufacturers may claim, their performance at the wand were all pretty damn close. So close in fact that from performance alone, a technician would not know which was the better. Some people, therefore, would make their machine purchase based more on price or aesthetics rather than engineering.
Those of us who run Scorpions/Recoils can at times be a bit smug. We are using industrial machines that perform well day after day after day……. We can also be a bit anal when it comes to some of the engineering and design “lesser” features which help to make the package more complete. Things such as the dump valve being placed a little higher so that grit doesn’t rip the seals. Holes to reduce in tank turbulence. No need for complications such as forced air cooling fans. Switches located in a position that is perhaps a little inconvenient when used as a porty but great when used van-mounted. Some machines with high positioned switches can be almost unusable when van-mounted!
We now have a new generation of extractor, and Cross American, ably supported by Nick and his team at Solution have lead the way yet again. The Jaguar performs to a level unimaginable just a few short weeks ago. There is no comparable machine. The “ugly” casing from the Recoil/Scorpion family is laughing out loud. Supporters, like myself, can smile with pride when this machine, built by engineers, not designers, out performs all the other portables in the world. And the recovery tank didn’t collapse The weight isn’t back breaking, so the machine can still easily be loaded/unloaded by one person. Reports are coming through from users about using even higher psi and still getting the carpets acceptably dry or even reducing psi and getting higher quality cleans than before and drying performance previously only dreamed of.
It seems inevitable that other manufacturers will soon use the same components to try to emulate the performance of the Jaguar. I wonder if the tanks of their “pretty” machines will collapse Will the casing get heavier Will little details such as the way the tank is sealed to the vac manifold cause the seals to be broken and drawn in by the new, high performance vac motors.
Many of us converts have always appreciated the Scorpion/Recoil in a way that owners of other machines find difficult to comprehend. Perhaps we will be laughing not just last, but longer and louder too.
Safe and happy cleaning,
Ken Wainwright, UK
Dear Ed,
"The Recoil was great - Jaguar is WOW - Wonderful oh Wonderful!!!"
I love that extra vacuum power and it is very quiet.

Ed,
Adding my views, the Scorpion is really good, nothing at all wrong with it, and I didn't think the Jaguar was going to be much better - that's why I held off buying.
But really, the Jaguar is a better performing machine. How much better, I cant put figures on it but for the 50' and 100' I have used on it, it must be getting near to the Prowler. Ok Prowler will clean at 300' whereas the Jag is reckoned to be ok at 150' - but I don't do the jobs needing more then 100' anyway.
Good stuff, well pleased.

Dear Ed,
Well, the performance has impressed me.
Ok with the Scorpion it was never hard to have a carpet dry to touch within an hour but 15 minutes!!!
We do regular cleaning at a school & this time used the Jag. Filthy classroom that needed rinsing & we were amazed to find dry areas that we'd only extracted 15ish minutes before.
Synthetic in a smelly eot---- dry within 15 mins.
If I'm honest I say the performance was 35% more powerful than the Scorpion & I was very happy with mine.

Ok fellas, I bought the Jaguar 6.6 a nth or so and here is my take on it: AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!
I heard several people comment on how quiet it was but I was still taken by surprise!! Another thing that is really amazing about it, is how I can clean at 100' (with no booster) and still see how them monster vacs on that beast lift the carpet up with my wand!!! I am leaving carpets drier that I EVER have!!
If you are thinking about getting one, you WON'T regret it!!!
THANKS FOR SUCH A GREAT MACHINE ED!!!
William
Dear Ed,
When it comes to the Man and the company, you can't beat them with a stick. I beat the recoils up, mine are not treated like they are made of glass. They are work horses and made to be worked hard. When I bought my first Recoil 3, (1912)Ed told me to drive it like I stole it. I have and never had a problem with the three of them except for operator error. I do laugh when my freinds TM's are in the shop for the second or third time in two weeks for the same problem.
Great machines, great company!!!

Dear Ed,
I would like to congratulate Mr. Valentine. I really believe that more than ever before people are looking for something different than the typical truckmounts or even typical portables. I have heared many a complaints from gasoline truckmount owners concerning reliabity and cost of buying and then repairing these machines. Several years ago not that many people had heard about Cross-American and their wonderful machines. Cross-American even uses this same philosophy with how they package their chemicals. Instead of shipping you chemical and water cross-americans chemical come in syrup form so you don't pay for shipping water. What a great idea! I have dealt with many large manufacturers over the many years that i have been in the carpet cleaning business and as a distributor for carpet cleaning products cross-american has always come through for me. Now they are doing business across the Atlantic and things are better than ever. So again I congratulate my very good friend Ed Valentine and all the people at cross-american for their hard work and integrity.

Dear Ed,
I've been building HWE porties since 1965 and am probably the most critical user on the planet. To supplement my own systems which are all vacuum optimized I wanted a smaller airflow optimized machine. After some research I bought a Recoil 3HP, which is very much more expensive here in England - but worth every penny. I can honestly say the this is a product that proves that a machine can be more than the sum of its' component parts. Ed Valentine certainly knows his business !!!

Dear Ed,
Things are going well with the (3) RECOIL-3HP systems and the attack. We are seeing amazing results and have displaced our competition at 4 large apartment complexes! You've been instrumental in helping us assemble a great cleaning solution ensemble. Thank you!
Mike Sanders, VA
Dear Ed,
The Cross-American Recoil/Scorpion-3 is the best machine(s) I have ever used and I have no hesitation in endorsing it to anyone and please feel free to use this endorsement as you wish.

Dear Ed,
I love my MITEY ONE carpet cleaner and have been using it for two years now! I bring it out everytime our dog messes up the carpet!

Dear Ed,
I love my Recoil 3-HP and it has been problem free for me. I run mine from the van probably 95% of the time.
That is the nice thing about the Recoil-3HP, you can run it from the van but when you need to be locked in at a business or a not so great neighborhood its easy to go portable. Cross American has a package called a "Quad 4 Pak".
Tony McDonald, TX
Dear Ed,
For anyone wanting maximum portable performance or a back up for a truck The SCORPION-3 super charged system is the most powerful and versatile machine I have seen or used. Definitely worth a look. The Scorpion is awesome!

Dear Ed,
I purchased a RECOIL-3 QUADRA4 PAK system. I am very pleased with the performance of the system! I have a white magic slide in unit and I have been in the cleaning business for 11 years. I have had many different types of portables over the years and was ready to just quit using portables period, but then I found the RECOIL system. As cleaners we are daily in many different settings, malls, high-rise buildings, apts, etc. now with the RECOIL system I can clean in buildings with truckmount drying!
Harold Cole, WV
Dear Ed,
Business is great and since we've had the RECOILS our production rates have risen dramatically with at least the same standards of work in reality a lot better therefore a lot more profitable and just as importantly a lot less tiring physically.

Dear Ed,
When I bought my first Harley it was a Sportster. Strong, fast & full of torque. One day a guy passed me on a bigger Harley & said "nice half a Harley dude". That bugged me for a few years so I choked & forked out 20k for Heritage softail. To my surprise I was not satisfied with the power but nevertheless I had a whole Harley now. So I get this RECOIL-3HP & get it the way I want it, does everything right & got it down to fantastic dry times. I read this article one night about getting older, making more money faster. That's me! So convinced that a TM will get me in & out faster with more peso's in my wallet I get a TM.
Sometimes I get done faster but not really. Running out to check on fire periodically has given me these twitches in my eye or wondering if that noise was the belt that just went. Worse is the darn metering system that always has a problem. I have to admit that the RECOIL-3HP with LP heat, POWER BOOSTER & a good wand can't be beat!!! It is nice to have a back up and that is what the TM is for me. Not at all knocking TM's but the Recoil can be by far more than a portie. The maintenance free Recoil spoiled me!
